Five Awesome Things To Do Today: Mermaid Parade, Free Cupcakes, And Much More!!

There are so many awesome things going on today, we thought we'd give you a rundown of five of our favorites!

1) To welcome the two new boats (aptly named Queens and Brooklyn), Circle Line Sightseeing Cruises is hosting a free 1940’s-style carnival on Manhattan’s Pier 81 today with a barbecue, merry-go-round and free cruises to the Statue of Liberty.

2) Tonight is the final edition of Don Hill's famous underwear-oriented dance party. There is an "all nude hot body contest at 2AM." We wonder what that's about. Five bucks gets you in before midnight. Details here.

3) The Mermaid Parade takes place at Coney Island today. Let's just hope Ursala stays away. Brave the rain and head out to Brooklyn for this spectacle.

4) Billy's Bakery is opening a new store at 75 Franklin Street today (near Broadway). We hear they'll be giving each customer a free coffee with a purchase between 7AM and 11AM, as well as a coupon for a free cupcake with a purchase from 7AM - 10PM (while supplies last). Samples of cakes, cookies, bars, and pies will also be available.

5) The Gowanus Studio Space's Jell-O Mold Competition will pit designers against each other in an effort to make the Jell-O mold cool again. Tonight from 6PM-10PM swing by to check out the action.
