Free Outdoor Comedy Show From 2-4 Today

Earlier this month, I was walking through Union Square and out of nowhere a comedian popped up to a microphone and started spewing some hilarious jokes. I soon learned that this was part of a free summer outdoor comedy series organized by Every weekend now through August, a lineup of standup comedians will perform in parks throughout the city.

This afternoon, Pete Lee and others will be in Tompkins Square Park from 2PM - 4PM.

Comedy not your thing? There's always the Gay Pride Parade in Manhattan and the Smith Street Fair In Brooklyn. Both take place this afternoon.

Free Ben & Jerry's In Brooklyn Today From 11AM - 1PM

Michael Jackson Tribute Parties All Weekend Long

Free Concerts From The New York City Opera This Weekend

The New York City Opera is holding three free concerts downtown this weekend as part of the River To River Festival.

Things kicked off last night with a performance of The Magic Flute and continue with La Navarraise at the World Financial Center Winter Garden tonight and Opera on the Piera (a concert of arias and ensembles) at The South Street Seaport tomorrow evening.

The Fray Play The Today Show Tomorrow Morning

The Fray perform a free concert tomorrow morning as part of the Today Show's Toyota Concert Series. Viewing is on a first-come, first-served basis outside of the show's studio on 49th Street at Rockefeller Plaza. Fans are advised to arrive by 6AM for best viewing.

Explore The World's Oldest Subway Tunnel By Foot

Brooklyn's Atlantic Avenue Tunnel is the world's oldest subway tunnel and you can take a free guided tour of it. The tunnel, which was built in 1844, is opened up to the public about once a month. Reservations are required.

The High Line Is Now Open!

The elevated High Line -- a former railway that runs along the Hudson River from Gansevoort to West 34th Street -- finally opened earlier this month. You can now visit the first section of renovated space (Gansevoort to 20th Street) daily from 7AM - 10PM. It features plantings, wooden chaises, and pools of water. Enter @ Gansevoort Street or by elevator at 16th Street.

Bushwick Country Club in Williamsburg will be having another free ice cream BBQ today. Five Awesome Things To Do Today: Mermaid Parade, Free Cupcakes, And Much More!!

There are so many awesome things going on today, we thought we'd give you a rundown of five of our favorites!

1) To welcome the two new boats (aptly named Queens and Brooklyn), Circle Line Sightseeing Cruises is hosting a free 1940’s-style carnival on Manhattan’s Pier 81 today with a barbecue, merry-go-round and free cruises to the Statue of Liberty.

2) Tonight is the final edition of Don Hill's famous underwear-oriented dance party. There is an "all nude hot body contest at 2AM." We wonder what that's about. Five bucks gets you in before midnight. Details here.

3) The Mermaid Parade takes place at Coney Island today. Let's just hope Ursala stays away. Brave the rain and head out to Brooklyn for this spectacle.

4) Billy's Bakery is opening a new store at 75 Franklin Street today (near Broadway). We hear they'll be giving each customer a free coffee with a purchase between 7AM and 11AM, as well as a coupon for a free cupcake with a purchase from 7AM - 10PM (while supplies last). Samples of cakes, cookies, bars, and pies will also be available.

5) The Gowanus Studio Space's Jell-O Mold Competition will pit designers against each other in an effort to make the Jell-O mold cool again. Tonight from 6PM-10PM swing by to check out the action.

FIGMENT is an annual arts event on Governors Island that began yesterday and runs through Sunday. It features artwork in every medium, from installation to performance and music to games and many things in between. Last year more than 10,000 people visited this free festival and even more are expected this year.
